I'm a serious sap. Like probably the most sensitive person you know. I cry when I'm really happy or really sad or when Bob and I have serious disagreements. I was always "the cryer" amongst all of my friends...so much so that Bob was even warned about how much I cry from my friends before he started dating me! Ha. So this whole mom thing has really brought my über sensitivity to a new level. Commercials like this and this might have brought upon a tear, but now, anything that has to do with the parent/child connection...oh boy, sobbing, ugly cry for sure...
My favorite kind of 4th of July party is hanging out by the pool, eating summer fruit and other finger foods, and enjoying a good fireworks show. It's always a great time to relax and enjoy the company of loved ones. So, I'll be keepin' it casual in a pair of festive shorts and a striped tank'and hopefully my boyfriend snags those awesome swim trunks!

One of the best things about Los Angeles and the food here is the abundence of Asian food. From Thai Town and Korea Town to Little Tokyo and multiple China Towns, there are plenty of options for getting homestyle and authentic Asian foods of all kinds in and just outside the city. One of my guilty pleasures in life is a big bowl of ramen noodles. Now, we're not talking instant ramen like we all lived off of in college...we're talking real ramen like they make in Japan. So I was excited to try a {new to me} ramen spot, Tsujita Artisan Noodle in West Los Angeles.
Tsujita specializes in Tsukemen-style ramen in which the noodles come separate from the broth. It's a 3-step process in which you dip the noodles into the accompanied soup broth, mix the black shichimi {black seven flavor chili pepper} into the noodles, and finally squeeze lime juice into the noodles enjoying the last of the noodles and soup. It reminded me of my trip to Japan a couple years ago when we had ramen almost every day.
They also have Tonkotsu Ramen {1st photo} in which the soup is made of pork broth and slowly simmered for 60 hours for richness. It's so savory and full of umami. We added seafood and an egg to ours for some extra oomph. Now that's comfort food in a big ole' bowl if you ask me! ' Joy

Happy Friday and Happy Summer guys! I'm going to end this week with a little snippet of my little nugget. This is from last weekend when she woke up at her usual {a bit too early for me} time around 6:30am, and I brought her into our bedroom in hopes of getting a few more minutes of sleep. Of course, that didn't work because how could I fall back asleep with this little bedhead ready to play and start the day. Excuse my extremely high-pitched baby voice here. I'd suggest turning the volume off if I were you! Have a great weekend, friends. Hope it's full of lots of sleeping in for all of you. When I'm in mom mode, I'm often wearing a simple patterned tee and some fun {but comfy} jeans. So I love being able to add a bit of extra something special that I can throw on in a pinch on top of my everyday outfit. This month, few of my favorite staples include...a lightweight and stretchy bracelet worn high up on the arm from A-Thread, a little sparkle by Ban.do to spruce up my usual bun or pony tail, this apple pendant from JewelMint {I love that you can store little treasures in there!}, and these J.Crew crystal bracelets which I love wearing layered together. To me, dessert makes just about any dinner better! That said, I often find there's not enough time to make both from scratch. So, this recipe for chocolate pudding is not only delicious, but it's also really quick to prepare. Make the pudding just before you start preparing your main course, and it'll be ready to enjoy once dinner is finished!
You'll need:
' 1 batch homemade chocolate pudding
' 1/2 cup whipping cream
' a couple teaspoons sugar
' 8-12 cream filled chocolate wafers
' fresh cherries
' cocoa powder for dusting
Here's how:
1. Make one batch of chocolate pudding and refrigerate for at least an hour or overnight.
2. Whip cream with a touch of sugar.
3. Pit and quarter cherries.
4. Spoon chilled pudding into a shallow dish and garnish with whipped cream and cherries.
5. Serve alongside a couple wafers and a dusting of cocoa powder.
These would be great with other fruit too'simply substitute the cherries for fresh raspberries or strawberries. Enjoy!

One of my favorite places to go on a leisurely morning is FarmShop in Santa Monica. I love speciality food markets, and this one full of my favorite things...
Um, hello cured meats and cheeses! It's the perfect place for picking up some pantry staples or to craft your very own charcuterie and cheese plate. FarmShop reminds me of Dean & Deluca in New York but with an amazing restaurant attached.
And, you gotta love it when shops and restaurants do a great job of branding. I loved the typographic paper bags they have for scooping up produce or picking up some pastries.
And, you really can't leave without a warm drink and a little sweet snack like this giant and light-as-air chocolate swirled meringue. Kill two birds with one stone, yes? The space is just gorgeous and so fun to shop in and peek through all the artisanal delights. Now, I only wish it were closer to my house. I'd be there every week! ' Joy

I recently attended and hosted a birthday party for friends, both of which require something fun and festive. Lately, I've been noticing all the fun gourmet donut shops popping up. But instead of having just donuts, some shops are offering a second specialty that can satiate past that morning sugar buzz. Here in LA, the newly opened Gingersnap {the bakery offshoot right next door to Gingergrass} specializes in Asian influenced donut flavors like coconut {shown above}, pineapple, and kumquat starting at 10am while serving Vietnamese bánh mì sandwiches come lunch time.
And in Philly {my home town!}, Federal Donuts whips up incredible fresh donuts to order {like these Indian cinnamon ones above} starting at 7am, then offers a few varieties of fried chicken {chile garlic, buttermilk, and more} once 11am hits. I fully believe in focusing on a few key items and being really, really good at them. So I love these über-focus donut shops that satiate both my morning sweet treat cravings and provide a lunch-time savory fix!
